Not a God of Confusion

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached? 1 Corinthians 14:33-36

Please note: In general, the commentaries on this passage point out that the topic is orderliness. It would seem that the women were interrupting with their questions (and no doubt their opinions), causing disruption and disorder. Obviously, they were allowed to speak when singing hymns, etc. Regardless of under what circumstances a woman may or not speak in church, Paul instructs in 1Tim. 2:12 that women are not to be placed in positions of authority over men in the church, as is already spelled out in chapter 11 with the given hierarchy of God’s design.
