NOTE: Most of us know that Paul was unmarried, and that is what he meant by “as I am.” As we can see by the rest of the chapter, he was concerned about how a married person must divide their attention between their spouse and their service to God. But he acknowledged that not everyone had received the same gift he had, enabling them to remain celibate, so it would be better if they married rather than be tempted to sin due to desire.

Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman?” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.
