Received Back Their Dead

Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. Hebrews 11:35-36

Note: It appears that the Greek says “obtain a better resurrection,” which has been changed to “rise again to a better life” in the ESV. I assume that they did that because they don’t want people to think you earn salvation. However, this has nothing to do with earning salvation. There ARE rewards for those who are saved, which ARE earned. Paul talked about them (to name a few references) in Romans 8:18-19, 1 Corinthians 2:9, 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Philippians 3:14. Jesus mentioned them in each of the letter to the churches in Revelation 2-3, plus Rev. 22:12, and in Matt. 10:24/Mark 9:41, Matt. 16:27, 19:29, 25:31-40, plus His angel relates to John the blessing of the first resurrection in Revelation 20:4-6.
